The rules to collegiate wrestling are pretty basic and standard, so it is not a complicated style of wrestling to learn. If anything is the trickiest to learn it will be the wrestling moves themselves. Just remember not to stall during a match. So whether you are on top, bottom, or neutral you better always be wrestling or it may cost you the match.

 

       Basic Rules

  • You have 3 two minute periods
  • The first period starts in neutral position
  • The second period the ref flips a coin and whoever wins gets to choose to go neutral, top, or bottom.
  •  You can also choose to defer, which means you let your opponent choose
  • The third round the wrestler who hasn't chosen yet gets to choose neutral, top, or bottom position
  • You can lock around someone's waist only if you and your opponent are in a standing position.
  • When you are on the ground if your going to lock around someone's waist you have to lock around one of your competitors arms as well
  • Just like the waist if you want to lock around someone's neck you have to lock around one of his arms also
  • No Slamming
  • Before and after the match you shake your opponents hand and after the match you go and shake your opponents coaches hands
  •  You can lock around someone's waist only if you and your opponent are in a standing position.

           Scoring Points

  • Takedown = 2 points
  • Escape = 1 point
  • Reversal = 2 points
  • Near Fall for 2 continuous seconds = 2 points
  • Near Fall for 3 continuous seconds = 3 points
  • 1st Penalty = 1 point to the other wrestler
  • 2nd Penalty = 1 point to the other wrestler
  • 3rd Penalty = 2 points
  • 4th Penalty = disqualification

  

     Other Terms

Pin = holding opponents shoulder blades to the mat for 2 continuous seconds

Tech Fall = having 15 points more than your opponent which means you automatically win
